Hmmm...the potential for weight gain kinda scares me...

So there's a new med out for Diabetics (Type 1 or 2, I take it). I'm a Type 1 and have been for most of my life. I was diagnosed at 10 and I'm now 43. It's really all I know. For the past I-don't-know-how-many years, I've been on a long acting insulin (24 hour) for my baseline and a short acting that I take whenever I eat something, or if I need coverage. Now, think about that a minute. Since I have to take a shot every time I eat something, it has been a huge deterrent to, well, eat. Most days I only eat dinner. Unless my sugar drops, I eat no snacks (or breakfast or lunch). I do occasionally have a snack at night because that's when I take the long acting insulin and can usually get away without a second shot (can you tell I have this all figured out?), but, since Kevin's been home, I haven't had too many of those for lack of time.

Here's the thing...the new med is a short acting puffer. No shot! At first I was all WooHoo! No shot! I can eat whatever and whenever without taking a shot! Then I started thinking about it. Uh-oh...no shot...I can eat whatever and whenever I want. Whoop! Whoop! Whoop! Danger! Danger! Danger!

Hmmm...

Ha ha ha ha.... hey, anything's better than a shot. :) And besides, there IS something called self-control that I'm sure you have in loads - the option of eating is always better than not. :)

Danger Will Robinson, Danger!

I yell this as my arms are moving like the robot from Lost in Space.

You can finally eat whenever and whatever you want, but I imagine if you gain any weight, then everything has to be readjusted all over again.

Never has anything sounded so good, yet so bad, at the same time.

Good luck with whatever you choose!!!!!

Hey you know..there is good and bad to everything!!! Weigh out those options and make your decision! I am not sure with any of this stuff you are SUPPOSE to eat ANYTHING???????? (Sorry, just the nurse coming out in me...hehehe)! Let us know what you decide, please. I will be thinking about you, Girl!

Why does every thing have to be good and bad??? CRAZY and SO unfair!

Good luck and let us know if you start eating too many of those peanut butter cups....we'll try to help you keep some kind of control. :)

I thought I left a comment about pumping... did it not go through? Or do you not even want to think about that?

Art-No, I never saw that comment...

In that case... get a PUMP!

I'm serious - I was really nervous about it, but I went from A1Cs in the 9s to under 7 without much effort at all, mostly because the pump is always there and so (munching on my midnight snack) it's easy to just punch in a quick extra dab of insulin. I'll give .5 units with the pump for a bite of food when I would never have gone looking for my insulin and drawn up a shot for it.
